The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) has announced the reaffirmation and renewed availability of ACCA’s Manual SPS – HVAC Design for Swimming Pools and Spas. As an industry-leading manufacturer of dehumidification and Indoor Air Quality systems, Desert Aire contributed technical information and drawings to Manual SPS. Desert Aire’s former president, Keith Coursin, also served as an advisor and content reviewer.

Mr. Coursin said, “The ACCA’s Manual SPS is the mechanical contractor’s single source of information for the design and installation of dehumidifiers for any indoor pool and spa project. Manual SPS helps bring together all of the many things that must be planned and completed correctly in order to have a properly functioning HVAC system.”

According to the ACCA, the ANSI/ACCA 10 Manual SPS – 2010 (RA 2017) is the only HVAC system design standard and manual recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for swimming pools and spas. Manual SPS provides HVAC system design and installation guidance for projects ranging from in-home hot tubs to large natatoriums that contain Olympic-size swimming pools.

Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA president and CEO said, “ACCA developed Manual SPS to ensure that practitioners have a technical resource when installing HVAC systems in spaces with swimming pools and spas. Contractors who follow the Manual SPS HVAC design protocols provide building owners with mechanical systems that properly dehumidify and control the space temperature.”

“This is important because these design protocols ensure that the air is safe, that there are fewer opportunities for condensation and mildew buildup, and that the equipment lasts longer. Swimming pools and spas are expensive to install and maintain, but even more so if an HVAC contractor doesn’t perform a quality design and installation of the HVAC system,” Mr. Stalknecht said.
